Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council of Guru Nanak Dev University organized Scholarship Distribution Function

52 students awarded with scholarships
Amritsar, February 19- Total 52 scholarships to the students of Guru Nanak Dev University and other institutes has been distributed here today by Dr. Inderjit Singh, Registrar of the University in the Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium of the University. These scholarships have been awarded by the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council of the Guru Nanak Dev University Branch in association with Sikh Human Development Foundation, America to the meritorious students keeping in view their performance in the written test and interview conducted by Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council.
    Dr. Inderjit Singh presided over this function while Mr. Gopal Singh, Treasurer of the Council, Dr. Harjit Singh, Founder Branch President, Mr. B.S. Sekhon, Branch President, Mr. J.S. Walia, Branch Secretary and         Dr. H.P. Singh, Treasurer of the Council were also present on this occasion.
     Dr. Inderjit Singh while speaking on this occasion said that due to rise of prices of every commodity and limited sources of income, the education become very expensive and out of reach of common man. He said that because of this talented students are more deprived of education. He said rate of economically backward people increased and education is the biggest issue for them. He appreciated the work of the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council for providing scholarships to the deserved and meritorious students. He also exhorted the NGO’s to come forward to eradicate illiteracy on pattern of Pulse Polio drive.
    He said Guru Nanak Dev University is also providing scholarships to the poor and needy students. He said the University has also provided fee concession to needy and intelligent students.
    He also exhorted the students to work hard with great dedication to achieve their targets in their lives so that they could serve the humanity in better way.
    Mr. B.S. Sekhon said that the Nishkam Sikh Welfare council has been running all its welfare programs only by raising donations from India and abroad. He said to help economically backward people in the society is the biggest service to the mankind.
    Dr. Singh said that the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council is a registered NGO which receives financial assistance from Sikh Human Development Foundation Inc., New York (USA) for awarding these scholarships to the needy but intelligent students studying in technical as well professional courses in colleges and universities.
Dr. H.P. Singh said that today the council has also distributed 350 scholarships among the students in Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Faridkot and total amount of scholarship is about 73 lakhs.
Dr. Jagjit Singh Walia thanked the chief guest and the others. The stage had been conducted by Dr. Gursharanjit Singh.
