Academicians, scholars express concern over Doping, stress on research, scientific outlook in Physical Education, seminar at KCW

Amritsar, February 21, 2012 : A galaxy of academicians, scholars and sports personalities who gathered today at a two-day long national seminar on “Futuristic Trends in Physical Education and Sports”, organized at Khalsa College for Women (KCW), expressed serious concerns over the rising trend of Doping in sports. They stressed on more research and scientific outlook in Physical Education and gave a clarion call to sportsmen and educational institutions to work together to end the evil of Doping in sports arena by adopting moral values and strictly implementing anti-Doping measures.
In his key-note address, Former Chairman, Department of Physical Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. NS Maan gave historical perspective of Physical Education and termed the subject as a ‘complete education’. He said it’s the Physical Education that teaches us to live a healthy and a fit life. He said they had been various evils that have come in the field of sports but Physical Education basically profess to live a meaningful, healthy life and also inculcate the team spirit and behavioral goodness amongst us.
Khalsa College Governing Council Honorary Secretary, S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who was the Chief Guest at the seminar stressed on the need of sports in educational institutions. He said if we want to build a civilized society, we will have to adopt sports as a way of life and Physical Education enable us to live a disease-free and healthy life. He welcomed the guest speakers and participants in the seminar.
Earlier, Dr. Maan said that ‘exercise is a medicine’ and ‘inactivity is a disease’. He said inactivity or idleness is emerging as a major challenge world over and we must exercise daily to ward off the diseases. In his presidential remarks, Director, Sports, Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh said that Doping is one of the major challenge before the sports managers today and the agencies like National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) should take more strict measures to end the evil.
Principal of the College, Dr. Sukhbir Kaur Mahal welcomed the speakers and scholars and said that the main aim of the seminar was to bring together leading sports scientists, researchers and academicians to understand and discuss recent developments in the field of physical education and sports. Former Chairman of Physical Education Department, Panjab University, Prof. Gurbax Singh Sandhu appreciated the efforts by various educational institutions being run by Khalsa College Governing Council to promote sports in the State.
The well-known Herbal Consultant, Dr. AS Mahal emphaised upon adopting natural supplements through Ayurveda to tackle the menace of Doping and to enhance performance during sports. Deputy Director, Sports, GNDU, Dr. HS  Randhawa, Head, Department of Physical Education, Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr. Nishan Singh also read their papers. In the afternoon session Dr. Jaspal Singh, Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar, S. Amandeep Singh, GNDU, Smt. Raman Jyoti, DAV College of Education, Amritsar, Gobind Singh, Guru Nanak College, Moga, Satinder Pal, RTM, Nagpur University, Dr. Maninder Kaur, Mata Ganga Girls College, Tarn Taran and Dr. Parminder Singh, Arya College, Ludhiana also read their research papers. Dr. Tejinder Kaur, Coordinator of the seminar thanked the speakers and participants.
