PUNJAB TO SPEND RS. 8500 CRORE FOR OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF CITIES AND TOWNS: BHAGAT CHUNNI LAL

·    UNDER PROGRESS PROJECTS PERTAINING TO PROVIDE POTABLE WATER, STREET LIGHTS, SEWAGE AND CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS WOULD BE COMPLETED IN THIS FINANCIAL YEAR

RH, MAY 14: The Punjab Government has introduced a ‘Special Comprehensive Plan’ for the overall development of cities and towns of the state by spending an amount of Rs. 8500 crores to provide 100 percent civic amenities in urban belts.
Disclosing this here today Bhagat Chunni Lal, Local Bodies Minister, Punjab said that the state government has decided to give strength to infrastructure development in the urban belts of state by removing all lapses and completing the ongoing development in urban areas. He said that the supply of potable water to the every nook and corner of the towns would be provided by March 2013 besides strengthening of road networks and sewerage facilitation.
The Minister said that Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal was paying special attention for the development of urban areas of Punjab and for this purpose he has given nod for 6 mega projects by sanctioning Rs. 993.18 crores to start these projects.
Bhagat Chunni Lal also said that Punjab government has prepared a budget of Rs. 1100 crores for 5 Municipal Corporations and 45 Nagar Councils of state including Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda, out of which, first installment of Rs. 410 crore has been released, while the remaining amount would also be disbursed soon. He also issued directions to the Mayors and Presidents of Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils to use the funds in judicious and transparent way. He also said that any irregularity in using funds would not be tolerated.
