ALL PANCHAYAT ACCOUNTS TO GO ONLINE IN THE STATE: SURJIT RAKHRA

·    4668 PANCHAYAT ACCOUNTS ALREADY ONLINED, REMAINING WILL SOON BE ONLINED
·    ONLINE OF PANCHAYAT ACCOUNTS WILL BRING TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

CHANDIGARH, MAY 15 : Process to online panchayat accounts is a big step to bring transparency and accountability in working of panchayats and the department. Disclosing this here today Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra said that soon all panchayat accounts will be onlined and work in this regard is going on at great speed.
The Minister said that this step was the need of the hour to bring transparency in funds allotted to panchayats and where these are spent.
To make accounts online work is in progress in 20 Zila Parishads and 142 Block Samities, said Rakhra. He added that out of Punjab’s 12776 village’s accounts of 4668 villages are already onlined. He said that remaining accounts will soon be onlined and officials are directed to complete this work on top priority so that we are able to achieve 100 percent target.
The Minister said that as 63 percent of population of Punjab lives in villages so to make Punjab a happier state it’s very essential to change the face of villages. He also appealed to all the panchayats to spend all grants fairly in a transparent manner for the overall development of villages. He also assured that Punjab Government will give grants for the development of villages to all panchayats without any discrimination.
