Khalsa College’s don gets Research Project of Rs.24.93 lakhs to study potato diseases

Amritsar, May 14, 2012 : Khalsa College’s Professor, Dr. Balwinder Singh, from Department of Bio-Technology has been sanctioned a top research project by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to carry research on diseases infecting potato crops. College Principal Dr. Daljit Singh said that Dr.Balwinder has been granted Rs.24.93 lakhs to carry research in the specified field under the fast track scheme for young scientists. “This research project will focus on management of diseases, infecting potato plants in Punjab’’, said Dr. Daljit adding that the potato crop was emerging as major cash crop in the state but was also susceptible to various diseases and a team of bio-technologists from the College, headed by Dr.Balwinder will carry the research on the topic. Notably, Dr. Balwinder was recently awarded the `young scientist award’ by Punjab Academy of Sciences during the 15th Punjab Science Congress held in Amritsar.
