Mr. Thandal welcomed the decision of Planning Commission of India to constituting and dispatching of a special team for evaluating and solving the problem of water logging in Punjab. Minister Thandal sought special package from the Centre Government for the farming community reeling under the problem of water logging. He said that the farmer of Punjab has been philanthropist in its approach and pursuing the principle of betterment of mankind. He said that pursuing this policy the farmer of Punjab has been feeding the Central grain pool by producing more and more food grains through the excessive use of ground water, which ultimately disturbed the water level of the state. He said that the presence of poisonous chemical elements in the ground water of some areas of Punjab rendered the ground water unable for human consumption. He said that on the other hand, the border districts of Punjab become defenseless due to the problem of water logging. He said that the Centre had not paid any heed to the genuine demands of Punjab, but it is a welcome step of the Planning Commission that he had understood the gravity of the problem of Punjab and decided to constitute and dispatch a team to evaluate and to solve the crisis of water logging.
