Implementing Amritsar Master Plan in toto is answer to `holy city’s woes, Chhina ask Sukhbir Badal

Amritsar, May 17, 2012 : State BJP executive member and Chairman, Punjab Small Scale Industries and Export Corporation (PSSIEC) Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today asked Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal to implement the Integrated Master Plan for Amritsar in toto and at priority basis. In a letter, he shot off to Deputy CM, he invited the attention of Badal junior towards the lack of basic amenities and facilities in the `holy city’ and sought integrated development with future needs in minds.
Chhina stated that SAD-BJP Alliance had made promises to the people of the state regarding the development. He said he had to admit that basic amenities including proper sewerage system, uninterrupted water supply, proper traffic system, cleanliness is still a distant dream for the residents of Amritsar. “Besides, the city’s rising population and future needs are not being taken care of. The city is writhing under the problems and common man’s life is becoming miserable as the city’s law and order is worsening too and traffic management is missing’’, he stated.
Chhina also invited the attention of Badal towards the pending projects for the city including the local transport system, making areas around Golden Temple congestion-free, dry port at Attari-Wagah road, strengthening Sri Guru Ram Das International Airport and streamlining of the traffic. He said more traffic personals are needed to be deputed and there were so many reports in the media regarding lack of traffic management but administration is yet to respond positively to the crisis-like situation.
He demanded local buses to be introduced, pod-transit system for city dwellers developed, encroachments be removed, Rehri market area  be identified for the Rehris to be installed at one stationary place as they keep moving in the city, creating hindrance in the traffic. “Sukhbir Badal had unveiled Amritsar Master Plan at a high-level meeting at Chandigarh in 2010 but little work has been done at the ground level’’, said Chhina.
He said under the Plan new by-pass roads are to be laid, elevated roads to be built, foot paths to be freed of encroachments, industrial and commercial hubs to be created, tourism infrastructure set up . “Badal is a committed leader who has great vision for Punjab and during our meeting he talks of making Amritsar a modern city and the tourists hub. I hope he will see that Master plan for development is taken up though integration of various government departments though single office, keeping in view the Amritsar of 2031.
Under the project Ganda Nala in the city’s periphery is also to be covered and the city is made beautiful through parks and plantation on road sides.
