Chandigarh, May 18: Government agencies and private millers procured more than 12585758 tonnes of wheat till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1750 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat.
The spokesman of the government said that Out of total procurement of 12585758 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 12489570 tonnes of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 2141 tonnes of wheat. Till May 17, PUNSUP procured 2846239 tonnes (22.61%), MARKFED procured 2762329 tonnes (21.95%). whereas PUNGRAIN had procured 2143407 tonnes (17.03%) PSWC procured 1428733 tonnes (11.35%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 1421035 tonnes (11.29 %) of wheat.The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1887827 tonnes (15.00%).
The spokesman added that District Sangrur with 1211565 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Ludhiana with 1035962 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 1021858 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
