Chandigarh, May 19: Government agencies and private millers procured more than 12641828 tonnes of wheat till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1750 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat.
The spokesman of the government said that Out of total procurement of 12641828 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 12544195 tonnes of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 2141 tonnes of wheat. Till May 18, PUNSUP procured 2854155 tonnes (22.58%), MARKFED procured 2775422 tonnes (21.95%). whereas PUNGRAIN had procured 2150224 tonnes (17.01%) PSWC procured 1444139 tonnes (11.42%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 1424711 tonnes (11.27 %) of wheat.The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1895544 tonnes (14.99%).
The spokesman added that District Sangrur with 1214779 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Ludhiana with 1036785 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 1022624 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
