Chandigarh, May 20:Government agencies and private millers procured more than 12673393 tones of wheat till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1750 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat.
The spokesman of the government said that Out of total procurement of 12673393 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 12575548 tonnes of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 2141 tonnes of wheat. Till May 19, PUNSUP procured 2858696 tonnes (22.56%), MARKFED procured 2785834 tonnes (21.98%). whereas PUNGRAIN had procured 2154091 tonnes (17.00%) PSWC procured 1446313 tonnes (11.41%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 1428030 tonnes (11.27 %) of wheat.The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1902584 tonnes (15.01%).
The spokesman added that District Sangrur with 1215495 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Ludhiana with 1037668 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 1023165 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
