JOSHI ISSUES STRICT INSTRUCTIONS TO PREVENT RAGGING IN TECHNICAL EDUCATION INSTITUTES

Chandigarh, May 20: Mr. Anil Joshi, Technical Education Minister issued strict instructions to all the government and private technical education institutes including Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics and ITI’s to take all preventive steps to in their respective institutions to ensure that students being admitted by them in fresh batches were not subjected to any harassment and ragging by the seniors.
Mr. Joshi has asked Technical Education Department to issue instructions to all Punjab Technical University, other deemed universities, Technical Educational Institutions, Polytechnics and ITI’s to follow the Supreme Court guidelines in this regard. He said that strict action would be taken against the institution found violating the norms.
Mr. Joshi had also asked the authorities of the educational institutions to take written undertaking from the students and their parents that they would not to take part in any kind of ragging activity. He said that parents should be made aware of the condition that involvement of their wards in any form of ragging would invite expulsion from the Institute including criminal case.
Mr. Joshi had also appealed to all the student fraternity not to indulge in ragging instead they should focus on their studies. The Minister also said that the aggrieved students could lodge their complaint before the college authority. All institutions have been ordered to set up a helpline for the ragging victims.
