DCs TO MONITOR DE-SILTING OF DRAINS AND CANALS’ EMBANKMENT STRENGTHENING: THANDAL

MLAS TO CROSS CHECK THE PACE OF WORK
·    STRENGTHENING OF CANALS’ EMBANKMENT AND DE-CLOGGING OF DRAINS TO COMPLETE BEFORE ONSLAUGHT OF MONSOON

    CHANDIGARH, MAY 21:     
Deputy Commissioners have been made responsible for ensuring the de-silting of drains and strengthening of canals’ embankment in stipulated timeframe. Pursuing the direction of Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and Irrigation Minister Mr. Janmeja Singh Sekhon, all the MLAs have been entrusted the responsibility of cross checking the progress in their respective constituency. Special committees have been constituted under the chairmanship of DCs concerned, which would held responsible for the implementation this project before the onslaught of Monsoon.
    It was disclosed by Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Department of Irrigation, Punjab. In a statement to press, he said that the strengthening of canals’ embankment was in progress on war-footing, which would complete till 31 May. Mr. Thandal said the de-clogging, de-silting and cleansing of drains would be completed till June 15. He said that special instructions have been issued to the officers of Irrigation and Drainage Department to complete the work within set timeframe, so that any devastation in case of heavy monsoon, to life and property, could be averted.
