Chandigarh May 21-The ensure better medical emergency services at civil hospitals the state Vigilance Bureau (VB) conducted surprise checking of emergency services at different Civil Hospitals last night all over the State.
Disclosing this Chief Director Vigilance Bureau Punjab Mr Suresh Arora DGP, VB Punjab said that after receiving complaints about emergency medical services at various civil hospitals, the Bureau has constituted 12 special checking teams under the supervision of Joint Director, AIG/Flying Squad and Senior Superintendent of Police Vigilance Bureau along with Medical Officers.
The special teams conducted surprise checking of emergency services at Civil Hospitals of Dera Bassi, Bassi Pathana, Samana, Sangrur, Mansa, Samrala, Abohar, Fetehgarh Sahib and Community Health Center Ajnala, Chamkaur Sahib, Kartarpur and Tanda.
Mr Arora further said that during the surprise checkings, some irregularities were found like as call registers were not properly maintained and in more than one emergency OPD, expired medicines were found in the emergency trays at many places. Besides, ECG machines were not in working condition, life saving equipments was out of order in several ambulance vans and there was shortage of diesel. He added that it was also noticed at Bathinda that the Medical Officer in an emergency OPD attended a patient who was having multiple injuries but in the Medico Legal Report, only one injury was recorded.
He said that the purpose behind the surprise checking was to check the emergency OPD services of the Hospitals/Community Health Centers including duty registers, availability of doctors/staff on duty, physical verifications of essential equipments, authenticity of entries made in emergency OPD register, availability of emergency medicines and check stock position, any difficulty being faced by the patients, validity of the medicines, call registers and the punctuality to attend the emergency calls, referral registers, minor O.T. register, police information register and the records pertaining to the ambulance services. "It was also aimed to make recommendations to the government regarding deficiencies or shortage of medicines, medical equipments etc. found in the emergencies OPDs during the inspections, he added.
Vigilance Chief informed that the detailed inspections reports from the various district VB SSPs regarding the checking were still awaited. "On receipt of the preliminary findings, a consolidated report along with the recommendations would be sent to the appropriate authorities", he added.
He categorically said that in future the Vigilance Bureau officers would also conduct such surprise checking in different departments with the sole purpose to ensure efficient delivery of services to the common public.
