Chandigarh, May 29:Punjab Revenue and Non Conventional Energy Minister Mr. Bikram Singh
Majithia today wrote a letter to Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Parkash Singh Badal,
urging him to issue his directive to all Government departments regarding the
implementation of Solar Water Heating System across the state.
Disclosing this here today, Mr. Majithia said that Union Government was
providing 30 percent subsidy to install any solar water heating system under the Jawahar
Lal Nehru National Solar Mission. He said that electricity up to 15 thousand units in a
year would be saved by a solar water heating system having capacity of 1000 litres. He
said that keeping its utility in view, it has already been made mandatory to install solar
water heating system on every 500 yards house, Schools, Colleges, Technical institutions,
universities, Tourist complexes, Industries, Hotels, Motels, Hostels, Hospitals, Nursing
homes, Jails, Canteens and all Government buildings by the Department of Non
Conventional Energy. He said that notification has also been issued in this regard by the
Government of Punjab. He expressed concern that till date many Departments have not
made required changes in this regard.
Mr. Majithia suggested that it should be made necessary that while making the
building plan concerned department should ensure the installation of solar water heating
system. He said that Local bodies department should provide the electricity, water and
sewerage connection only after countercheck the installation of solar water heating
system. Besides that similar procedure should also be adopted by the Public works
department regarding the government buildings, said Mr. Majithia.
Mr. Majithia urged the chief minister to issue strict orders for the effective
implementation of the directive in both letter and spirit so that the much needed and
expensive electricity could be saved in the larger public interest.
