Creat Disaster Management Authroities at State, District and village level – Governor

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 5: A five member delegation led by Mr. Shashidhar
Reddy, Vice Chairman, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)
today called on Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory,
Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil and gave presentation on Multi-state
Earthquake preparedness campaign which they are going to launch in
February 2013 in the tri-city of Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula and
Himachal Pradesh.
Mr. Patil stressed upon creating Disaster Management Authroities at
State, District and even at village level and they should be
functional in a proper and effective manner. He said that total mock
drill campaign should also be videographed and its copies to be sent
to all the concerned so that further improvements can be made lateron.
The Governor said that along with civil defence activities, NCC boys
should also be involved in this campaign. He also emphasized on
educating the masses to construct earthquake proof buildings.
Mr. Patil asked the delegation whether they have the equipment to
detect with the disaster. He said it was easy to remove debris of old
constructions but it was very difficult to remove the debris to big
concrete buildings. He asked them to provide information to Chandigarh
Police regarding the required equipment so that they can be able to
made arrangement in advance.
The Governor asked the Chairman of (NDMA), in order to make this
campaign more effective, successful and result oriented, you should
have to provide print material in detail, so that concerned officers
should study it thoroughly before the launch of the campaign in
February 2013.
The Administrator asked the Adviser to reconstitute the Disaster
Management Authority of UT, Chandigarh and he said that Deputy
Commissioner will be the Chairman and Nodal Officer of this Authority.
Mr Patil assured to extend all possible help and cooperation to make
this campaign more successful.
