HIGH SECURITY NUMBER PLATES MANDATORY IN PUNJAB

Chandigarh June 11:   The Punjab Government has directed the authorities concerned to implement the directive of the state government regarding the fixing of high security registration plates (HSRP) on vehicles and made an appeal to the general public to have it fixed at the earliest.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the department of Transport Punjab said that under the Central Motor Vehicle Rule 1989, it was pertinent to have high security number plates on the vehicles registered in Punjab. According to the directions of the Supreme Court of India, all the new vehicles would have the high security number plates at the time of purchase whereas the work of putting up of such plates have already been started in the districts Transport offices concerned on the old vehicles.
    Adding further, he said that as per the fixed rates, the number plates for scooter, motor cycle, moped and other two wheelers would cost Rs. 100, three wheelers would be Rs. 135 whereas light motor vehicles/ passenger cars would get it for Rs. 295, medium commercial vehicles/ heavy commercial vehicles/trailers/combination would get it fixed for Rs.315 and for agriculture tractor/ other vehicles for Rs. 100 besides the 12.5% vat and 10% surcharge on vat would be levied on the fixed rates.
