· 100% VILLAGES WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS AMBITIOUS PROJECT AFTER COMPLETION OF PILOT PROGRAM
CHANDIGARH, JUNE 13: Ponds in all the villages of Punjab would be renovated and upgraded as the Rural Development and Panchayats ministry today finalized this mega project with the purpose of providing clean environment in the rural belts of state.
This project was finalized today during a high level meeting of three departments including Rural Development and Panchayats, Water Supply and Sanitation and Soil Conversation Department held here.
Presiding over the meeting, Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister said that the Punjab Government has decided to renovate and upgrade the ponds in all the villages of state with a sole aim to make clean the water of ponds, to provide healthy environment and fresh air to the rural population of Punjab. He said that the government was adopting several scientific techniques for this purpose.
Mr. Rakhra said that the state government would soon start the pilot program under this ambitious project. He also directed the officers of the concerned departments to review the results of pilot program so the project could be implemented in all the rest of villages of Punjab. He said that 100% villages of Punjab would be brought under this project and the works would be completed in a given stipulated time. He said that the water of ponds could be used for the purpose of fish farming and irrigation after the completion of the project.
Mr. Mandeep Singh Sandhu, Financial Commissioner Rural Development and Panchayats Punjab was also present in the meeting.
