VIGILANCE NABS FIVE OFFICIALS IN BRIBERY CASES FOURTEEN OFFICIALS CONVICTED BY SPECIAL COURTS

Chandigarh June 14: State Vigilance Bureau has arrested one gazetted officer and four non-gazetted officers red handed in different corruption cases and was able to secure the convictions of three gazetted officers, eleven non-gazetted officers and three private persons in eleven different prosecution cases contested by the Bureau in the last month.
Disclosing this here today, Mr. Sursh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that Bureau has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere in the State. In this direction, the Vigilance officers have ensured that suspect did not escape judicial punishment in the various courts in the State.
He added that during the last month of May, the Vigilance had nabbed Jaswinderpal Singh, Executive Engineer, Powercom posted at Batala red handedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. one lac from the complainant (consumer) to curtail the fine of Rs. 6.50 lac that was imposed by the concerned SDO during checking of power theft at his shop. Besides this, four more corrupt officials namely Harpinder Singh Pharmacist posted at Civil Hospital Batala, ASI Balwinder Singh (1786/Ldh) Police Station Sadar Ludhiana, Manga Singh Drug Clerk at Civil Hospital Fatehgarh Sahib and Atama Singh Upper Division Clerk Powercom Malerkotla have also been caught red handed accepting bribes in different bribery cases. He further added that the Bureau has also registered a criminal case against a suspect corrupt official to probe into the alleged allegations.
The Vigilance Chief said that during the month of May the special courts have sentenced three gazetted officers, eleven non-gazetted officers and three private persons in eleven different prosecution cases after finding them guilty. The accused Mrs Sushila Rani Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Dinanagar (Gurdaspur), Dr Manwinder Singh Medical Officer, Civil Hospital Bhagta Bahika (Bathinda), Sub-Inspector Bakhsish Singh (887/PAP) Police Station Sadar Patiala, Constable Shukar Singh (1774/Patiala) Police Post Kasturba Rajpura, Constable Yadwinder Singh Gunman to ETO Excise Mobile Wing Amritsar, Avtar Singh Lineman and Jatinder Singh Assistant Lineman Powercom Atam Nagar Ludhiana, Satinderpal Singh Patwari revenue halqa Pamal, Ludhiana and Raj Kumar Secretray Co-operative Agricultural Society  Khunkhun Kalan Hoshiarpur including Devinder Kumar Panchayat Secretary, Dev Raj District Gram Udyog Organiser Rupnagar, Sarpanch Amar Singh Mehma Salempur Block Bhunnarheri (Patiala), Nahar Singh, Balraj Singh and Angrej Singh (private persons) were sentenced for two years to four years imprisonment alongwith fines.
