CHANDIGARH, JULY 1:  The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT,
Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil speaking on the occasion of “Change
of Collar Ceremony” Rotary International at Chandigarh here today said
that peace in the world can be achieved if you have peace in your
mind. He said the concept of Peace is not new. It was given thousands
years back by our saints and seers. He said that peace can mean
freedom of thought and freedom of choice. It can mean security and
confidence in the future, life in a stable society. On a more abstract
level, peace can mean a sense of happiness, of inner serenity, of
    Mr. Patil said need of the hour is to adopt comprehensive and
positive attitude in life. He said that the members of the Rotary are
successful in their own life. Their attitude is to help others and
Rotarians donot believe in asking but they belives in giving. Even
they donot ask help from the governments, he added.
    Lauding the role of the Rotarians, Mr. Patil said they help us to
meet the basic needs of others to provide health care, sanitation
food, and education, when and where they are most needed. He said
Rotary builds bridges of friendship between the people and the
nations. Rotary is one of the largest humanitarian movement,
transcending all barriers and symbolizing humanity, voluntary service
and universal spirit.
    Mr. Patil complimented Rotarians for running several major projects
including, Rotary Blood Bank, Rotary Cancer Hospital, Rotary PGI
Serai, Rotary Heartline project and Rotary Gift of Sight Project for
free retinal eye surgeries. In these noble causes, Mr. Patil said that
individuals organizations, governments would certainly extend their
helping hands to all those who want to tread on this noble path for
making this world more happier prosperous and peaceful.
    Congratulating outgoing team of Rotarian Mr. Manpreet Singh Gandhoke
for doing excellent work, Mr. Patil also wished new incoming team and
urged to create peaceful world by helping the human beings to adopt
global attitude and get united. He said that with the cooperation and
full help of all the Rotarians it is not difficult for the Mr.
Manmohan Singh, new District Governor, 2012-13 to achieve his aims and
    Mr. Patil also released  district Directory on the occasion.
    Besides Rotarian, Mr. R.K. Saboo, guest of honour, Mr. Dhyan Chand,
Mr.P.K. Rubi, Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi, MLA who is also brother of
Mr. Manmohan Singh, new District Governor, several IAS officers from
Punjab Government were also present on the occasion.
