Gadhar Express by Dr. Atamjit Singh

Chandigarh, 28 August 2012 (Bharatsandesh news):- The Panjab University Alumni Association (AITIHASIKI) of the Department of History is organizing a recitation of historical play “Gadhar Express” by Dr. Atamjit Singh (National Sahitya Academy Sangeet Natak Academy Award Winner) on August 29 at 11.00 a.m. at ICSSR Complex Seminar Hall No.1 on the University Campus.

The entire faculty and students of Panjab University are welcome as this play will help us to peep into the past and will benefit students in making their horizon wider.  The recitation of play represents the lesser known unsung heroes and the most important chapter of freedom struggle of India.  This play is first presented at City of Sacramento, California, United States, the birth place of Gadhar Party of India and the movement.

Dr. Atamjit Singh penned a play Mungu Comrade on the life and struggle of a Sikh Kenyan freedom fighter Makhan Singh.  Now he has turned his attention to several unknown heroes of the Gadhar Party, who along with the popular ones like Lala Hardayal, become protagonists of his latest play Ghadar Express.

Playwright Dr. Atamjit Singh has been chosen for the 2009 Sanitva Akademi Award in Punjabi language for his play Tatti Tawi Da Sacch, based on the martyrdom of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev.  Tatti Tawi Da Sacch, for which Dr. Atamjit got this award, is part of the BA syllabus at Guru Nanak Dev University and M.A.  Punjabi at Punjabi University.  He has had over 20 books published in Punjabi and Hindi, including Kebrastaan, Chabian, Hawa Mahai, Natak Natak Natak, Rishtian Daa Kee Rakhiye Naa, Shahar Beemar Hai, Farsh Vich Uggia Rukh, Chirtian, Mungu Comrade and Ghadar Express.
