Dr. Ashwani Kumar in Bangladesh to recieve award

New Delhi, 15 Dec 2012 (Bharat Sandesh News):– Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Minister for Law and Justice, arrived in Bangladesh today at the invitation of the Government of Bangladesh to attend the Liberation War Awards ceremony tomorrow. Soon after his arrival in Dhaka he called on Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He conveyed to her the greetings from Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Dr. Ashwani Kumar expressed his deep gratitude to the Government and the people of Bangladesh for conferring the ‘Friends of Liberation War Award’ on his father Late Shri Prabodh Chandra for his role in the historic War of Liberation in 1971. The Union Minister will receive the award on behalf of his father at a formal ceremony in Dhaka tomorrow. Previous recipients of the Awards have included Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Shri I. K. Gujral.

Dr. Kumar complimented Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the rapid progress Bangladesh has made in all spheres under her leadership and her contribution to the strengthening of India-Bangladesh relations. He reiterated India’s commitment to develop the best possible relations with Bangladesh in all fields based on the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty and mutual benefit. He said India attaches the highest importance to its relations with Bangladesh and was committed to resolving all issues through consultation and with the highest priority. He noted that immense progress in bilateral relations had been made following the historic visits of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India in 2010 and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Bangladesh in 2011.
