Amritsar, March 20 A “Three Weeks Refresher Course in Environmental Studies (ID)” was concluded here today in the Academic Staff College (ASC) of the Guru Nanak Dev University. This course was being organized by Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences of the University. As many as 41 teachers from various states were participated.
Prof A.S Brar, Vice-Chancellor was the chief guest. Prof. T.S. Banipal, Director ASC welcomed the chief guest and others. Prof. Avinash Nagpal, Course Coordinator detailed about the course and highlighted the various activities undertaken by the participants during these days. Prof. A.K. Thukral proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Renu Bhardwaj, Prof. Saroj Arora and other faculty from the Deptt of Botanical & Environmental Sciences were also present.
Prof. Brar in his valedictory address drew attention towards the various environmental hazards being faced by the country at present. He also compared the environmental scenario of the Country with the developed countries of the world. He lamented that
He enumerated the various reasons for such a dismal picture. He said that lack of awareness amongst the masses comes first. The role of industry is also not positive in this regard, he added.
He opined that rules and regulations are followed more in violation than in implementation. That is why despite the plethora of laws regarding controlling of all types of pollution results haven’t been up to the expectation.
He was of the opinion that teachers as a role model of the society can play a significant role in changing the mindset of the society in all the aspects. Prof. Brar also highlighted the contribution of the role of teachers in moulding the shape of the society for a better future.
Prof. T.S. Banipal detailed the achievements of the University during the last couple of years. Prof. Brar also distributed the certificates to the successful participants on the completion of the course.
