Empowered Committee on mega projects approves cess to fund CSR projects

Chandigarh, 22 March 2013:- The Empowered Committee on mega projects today approved to levy 0.25 and 1% of the total project cost towards the contribution for special ‘Cancer Relief and Drug de-addiction Fund’ under the provisions of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the Empowered Committee chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal here at Punjab Bhawan this evening.

Disclosing this here today, the spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the committee made it mandatory for all the entrepreneurs and Industrialists to contribute 0.25% and 1% of the total investment in case of manufacturing units and multiplexes & housing projects with a maximum cap of Rs. 25 lac and Rs. one crore respectively for this purpose. All the entrepreneurs whose projects were cleared in the meeting consented to contribute for this noble cause.

Meanwhile, the Empowered Committee also approved four mega projects with total investment of Rs. 578.68 crore comprising three mega manufacturing projects viz. M/s Asian Fine Cements for setting up of a Cement Plant with an installed capacity of one million per annum at village Rajgarh in Tehsil Rajpura of District Patiala with an investment of Rs. 127.46 crore.

Likewise, the committee also approved a manufacturing unit of designed woolen and cotton apparels by M/s Monte Carlo fashions Ltd. at Sherpur Kalan in Ludhiana district at a cost of 163.86 crore and a Terry Towel Project to be set up by M/s TC Terry Tex Complex near Lalru in Tehsil Dera Bassi of Mohali district with an investment of 104.36 crore besides a Mega Multiplex of M/s Parv Promoters Limited at Jalandhar with a total capital outlay of 183 crore.

Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Local Government Minister Mr. Chunni Lal Bhagat,  Tourism & Jail Minister Mr. Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Mr. Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, Finance Minister Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Revenue Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majhitia, Industries and Technical Education Minister Mr. Anil Joshi, Mr. NK Sharma and Mr. GS Babehali (both Chief Parliamentary Secretaries), Chief Secretary Mr. Rakesh Singh, Financial Commissioner Revenue Mr. NS Kang, Financial Commissioner Development Mr. GS Sandhu, Principal Secretary to Chief Ministers Mr. SK Sandhu, Principal Secretary Industries & Commerce Mr. Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary Finance & Planning Mr. Satish Chandra, Principal Secretary Water Supply and Sanitation Mr. Suresh Kumar, Secretary Housing and Urban Developmet Mr. A Venu Prasad, Director-cum-Secretary Industries & Commerce Mr. Vikas Partap, MD Punjab Agro Mr. Kirandeep Singh Bhullar.
