A delegation of NSUI led by Sunny Mehta, national delegate met the UT Adviser today and demanded penal action against the city private schools who have refused to admit students under EWS category under RTE Act.Most private schools in the city were allotted plots at subsidized rates and one of the pre-conditions of these allotments is 15% seats would be reserved for EWS students, failing which the allotment can be cancelled and the Administration can resume the plots allotted to these schools.Besides, RTE rules further empower the DEO to withdraw the recognition of the schools violating the provisions of the Act.Sunny Mehta called upon the Adviser to immediately disaffiliate the member schools of Independent Schools Association who have blatantly refused to admit EWS students.Neelakshi Sharma, member of the NSUI delegation further demanded that lands allotted to the violator schools should be cancelled.Jivleen Kaur, stated that since these schools have failed to implement the RTE Act within the final deadline of 31 March, 2013, they are now operating illegally and must cease to operate with immediate effect. Their plots should be resumed and the administration should take over these schools and operate them as Government schools.Surprisingly, the adviser’s reaction was that they are absolutely toothless and have no power to take any action against the erring schools.Sunny Mehta said that if the administration does not implement the act fully, we shall take up the issue of inaction of the UT administration before the Union HRD Minister shortly.
