Punjab Congress demands to withdraw hike in hospital charges

Punjab Congress today demanded to withdraw the hike in charges in government hospitals.In a statement issued here Mr. Tarlochan Singh Soondh said that hike in medical charges would make the treatment in government hospitals beyond reach of poor people, mainly the people below poverty line and labourers who do not earn enough to meet the two ends of life.Mr.Soondh said that Punjab government had made a promsie with the people to provide free medical facilities. He said that charges for treatment have been doubled. The medicines of poor quality are supplied in hospitals and doctors often advise patients to buy medicines from outside. He said that center government was sending crores of rupees to Punjab government under Rural Health Mission and other schemes and state government was unable to utilise these funds.
