Chandigarh, June 2(Bharatsandesh news): Today, Pawan Kumar Bansal, former Railway Minister & present Member Parliament of Chandigarh, distributed ‘Hygiene Kits’ to over 55 girls of Bapu Dham Colony, Chandigarh. The programme named as ‘Girl Star Project’ was organized by Yuvsatta at local DAV College, Chandigarh.
Giving information about the initiative Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta shared their NGO had started this ‘Girl Star Project’ to make Chandigarh a ‘Girl Child Friendly City’. As part of which today ‘Hygiene Kits’ worth Rs. 1100/- each, containing products like 12 packs of Sanitary napkins, brush, toothpaste, soap, mediker shampoo , nail cutter, Detol, cotton, talcum powder, towel, hair oil, handkerchief, comb, hair band, hair clips etc. plus also a book on ‘Key to Health’ by Mahatma Gandhi (Arogya Ki Kunji) was presented in a beautiful bag. In days to come Yuvsatta also plans to cover 1000 girls of Bapu Dham, Colony No. 4, Mauli Jagran & Manimjara in this programme and will also be raising donations from people to arrange for bicycles, sewing machines, sports kits, grooming sessions and self-defence classes for these marginalized girls.
Appreciating the initiative Pawan Kumar Bansal said that people of Chandigarh are very socially active, literacy rate in the city is quite high. Strikingly, more than 80% teachers in our school system are also women. And we all together can play a pivotal role to make our young girls and women in the city feel safe and cared for. We all must work to safegaurd’s the dignity of girl child and equal partnership between the men and women in all fields.
The programme started by a welcome ‘Ganesh Vandana’ by Gurukul Global nursery class students and ended with facilitation of supporters of ‘Girl Star Project’ like A.K. Dua, Secretary, Chandigarh Social Welfare Board, Maj. Gen. MS Kandal, Daljit Singh Grewal, President of Chandigarh Senior Citizen’s Association, Brig. Keshav Chandra, Mrs. Aruna Bhardwaj, Principal, Gurukul Global School, Dr. BC Josan, Principal, DAV College, Chandigarh, Shri PC Sanghi, Chairman, FOSWAC, Chandigarh, Raj Kumar Bhojia, Chairman, Bhojia Dental College, Baddi and many others.
