GND University celebrated Foundation Day of Sri Amritsar Sahib

Amritsar, July 6(    Bharatsandesh news     )– The Guru Nanak Dev University celebrated Foundation Day of Sri Amritsar Sahib here today in the Conference Hall of the University by organizing   a workshop on "My City My Pride My Responsibility" was organized to mark this occasion. More than 15 research papers were presented by eminent personalities on this occasion.

This function was organized by the Guru Ramdas School of Planning of the University in association with Eco Sikh Foundation and Amritsar Vikas Manch.

          Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar presided over. Dr. Balwinder Singh, Head of the Department welcomed the chief guest and others. Ms. Kiran Sandhu of the Department presents vote of thanks. Dr. Kastub Sharma, DCP, Amritsar and Dr. T.S. Banipal, Director Research were also present.   

Prof. Brar while speaking on this occasion said that Amritsar is the land of Saints and Gurus always project the message of peace and harmony to the whole world. He said that the teaching of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji are more relevant in this era of Science and Technology and lead to right direction.

          He said that the history and culture of Amritsar city is very rich and prosporus. He said that a detailed documentary film is needed to be made to explore more about the City. He advised the Department that a book on Amritsar City should be written keeping in view its rich culture and Heritage. He said that for this the University would extend its full cooperation. He said that quality research in always encouraged by the University to meet the international challenges.

          He said that a grant of 65 crores is provided by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi to encourage quality research in the University. He said that all the admissions to various courses runs by the University are strictly on the merit basis so that, real talent could be recognized and promoted.

          Dr. Balwinder Singh detailed various aspects of the Amritsar city which were associated with the development of the city. He also detailed the projects which were initiated by the University with the authorities of the Amritsar city. Er. Daljit Singh Kohli, Amritsar Vikas Manch presented his paper on the responsibilities of the Amritsar citizens for conservation of water.

          Dr. Kastub Sharma and Dr. B.S. Sekhon of the Department also presented their papers on this occasion.

A documentary on history and heritage of the Amritsar city directed by Sh. S.P. Arora was also shown on this occasion.
