PAU STUDENT CONFERRED WITH JAWAHARLAL NEHRU AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PH.D RESEARCH

LUDHIANA, AUGUST 27(Bharat Sandesh)

 

Dr (Mrs) Gulab Pandove, an alumna of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and presently working as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Microbiology of the PAU, has made the University proud by fetching the prestigious “Jawaharlal Nehru Award 2012” for her outstanding doctoral thesis research.  The Union Minister of Agriculture, Sh. Sharad Pawar bestowed the award on Dr Pandove during the 85th Foundation Day and Award Ceremony of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The award carried a certificate, citation, gold medal and a cash of Rs 50,000/-.  The PAU student carried out her research on the topic “Biomonitoring of Indicator and Emerging Pathogens in Water” under the guidance of Dr (Mrs.) Param Pal Sahota, Senior Microbiologist-cum- Head of the Microbiology Department.

 

Dr B. S. Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, congratulated Dr Pandove for bringing laurels to the University by bagging the prestigious national award for her outstanding Ph.D research.

 

Lauding Dr Pandove for this rare distinction, Dr Gursharan Singh, Dean of Postgraduate Studies, highlighted that this is the 17th Jawaharlal Nehru Award won by the PAU for outstanding research done by its Ph.D student. He appreciated the rigorous efforts put in by the advisor of the student, Dr Sahota, and hoped that in future too, the students’ research at PAU will be honoured with prestigious awards.
