Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized two knowledge Upgradation Training Programmes for the Dairy Farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab. More than fifty farmers of five States participated in these trainings. Ttraining programmes were sponsored by Indian Immunological Limited, Hyderabad. DR R S Sahota Director of Extension Education, was chief guest at the occasions. He said that through the adoption of scientific and recommended practices it is very easy to increase the milk productivity of the animals. We cannot afford to increase the population of animals, as country is already having large number of animals of world, but we can definitely improve the performance of our animals through recommended advanced practices in dairy farming. Dr Sahota also revealed that in this progressive age one must equip himself with latest know how of various entrepreneurship including livestock farming. He appreciated the Indian immunological efforts to get the Indian farmers trained with latest knowledge. It is worth mentioning here that GADVASU is going to organize series of such training programmes for farmers and veterinary officers of the country with financial support of this establishment . Mr CH. Srinivasa Sastry, Customer Relations Manager, Indian Immunologicals revealed that the company is trying its best to upgrade the scientific knowledge of the dairy farmers of the country and for that, the company has shortlisted the farmers and other technical officers from the country and they are being trained at GADVASU, Ludhiana.
Dr J S Bhatti, Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education told that the Department is continuously organizing training programmes on all species of livestock (dairy, piggery, goat, poultry, rabbit and fish farming) and also arrange tailor made training programmes as per demand of farmers. Dr Bhatti told that due to many option in livestock farming, it is the best viable option for self-employment for the unemployed youth. One can start with little inputs farming like goat; poultry to large input farming like dairy farming after getting basic training on these professions from Veterinary varsity. An evaluation of the course was done by a short test and two farmers were awarded Best Participants Award by Dr R S Sahota. Dr H K Verma, Course Coordinator of this training programme revealed that the participants were very progressive and enthusiastic to know more about the scientific knowledge about dairy farming. The information regarding milch breeds of animals, balanced feeding of dairy animals, housing, vaccination, deworming, infertility problems, right time of insemination, , clean milk production, marketing of milk and milk products were provided to the farmers. They were very impressed by seeing the Punjab livestock farmer’s status and condition of their animals during their visit. All the participants showed keen interest to procure the university literature.
